Ice Fishing

Got a chance to try ice fishing this week. Didn't realize it would be so much fun.

Kent marking out the spots to drill the holes.

Could hardly warm your hands before another fish would bite.

Winter time!

A view from our street last week. This is why there haven't been any new biking pictures.

Blodgett Canyon

A nice cool ride up blodgett canyon. Quite rocky in places.

Challenging, but fun.

Note the blaze orange. It must be hunting season.

Thursday night Ride: Calf Creek

Well, the days are getting shorter and cooler; not too many opportunities to ride after work.
Had an unusually warm day on Thursday, temps nearing 70, while the rest of the week has been topping out in the low 60's or upper 50's, so we had to take advantage of that!

Sun sets a bit early now.

Soaking in the last rays.

Moon comes and the sun goes down.

High mountain meadow.

Winter is here!

Cars are all covered with ice this morning.
All the gardens have been harvested.
The remaining flowers are wilted.
Snow has dusted the mountain tops.
Winter is here.

No, this was not an attempt at a haiku.

Yeah! Snow is coming!

Peaking through the misty mountain clouds this morning is the beautiful white stuff! Sorry, no pictures at this time.....
Did a ride up Fred Bur Canyon last night, wet and chilly, with some cold stream crossings, winter is coming.

Euro Sundays in Montana!!

Yep, there are some cool cars in Montana. A few Ferraris, like the F40 in Hamilton, a number of nice Porsches, and many Lotus'.
But, an old XK Jag, all original with a crusty old guy driving it, that took top prize for me!

Fire on the mountain.

On the ride last night, we got a good thunder and lightning show, and I was sure it would result in a few fires, especially since it had been very windy and in the 90's that day. But then, we got a serious dumping of rain.
However, that was a few miles south of Hamilton; it didn't really rain much up here, and this is what we got the next day.
For those who know the hike, just to the right is Canyon Creek, and the Blodgett overlook trail.
The storm gave us about 9 total fires last night.

Lost Horse

A view of the Lost Horse Canyons. The rocky point on the mountain to the right is where we rode on the 12th. You can see a pano from that point in the Aug, 13 blog. That is the Lost Horse Observation point.

Overwich part two.

This is a bad pano of the Overwich falls, which is situated right at the crux of two mountain ranges and a scree field.

"I will refrain from using over-used words to describe this ride"
This was an epic ride, it was totally awesome. The trails hit every type of terrain you could imagine, from twisty rutted rock filled to fast smooth switchbacks. We rode through burned out forests covered in mountain wildflowers to dense alpine forests. And plenty of narrow single tracks along steep mountain sides. This is some wild country.

The Corvallis Hill

On the way up the Corvallis Hill.
This is one of the few paved climbs in the area, and though it doesn't look too bad
from the picture, it is exposed, fairly steep in sections, with longish ascents.
The fun part is going down ~1200 feet in just a few miles, but watch out for the deer!
